On Thursday, the Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officially inaugurated its newly elected party executives for the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

The ceremony also saw the inauguration of executives for the 260 wards across Enugu.

This event, which took place four months after the elections, will conclude on Friday at the Nkanu East LGA headquarters in Amagunze.

The party’s state chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, who led the event, encouraged the newly sworn-in executives to begin their work in preparation for the 2027 general elections, emphasizing the importance of their roles in the party’s success.

At the inauguration in Aninri LGA, Chukwunweike reflected on the party’s poor performance in the 2023 elections, which resulted in the loss of key seats to the Labour Party in both state and federal legislative bodies.

However, he noted that Governor Peter Mbah’s performance in improving the state’s economy had made the task of the new executives easier.

Chukwunweike remarked, “We have visited all the LGAs, and today, we’re here to carry out a simple but important task. Governor Peter Mbah, the leader of our party, has instructed us to inaugurate all the elected executives. Although this should have happened earlier, there’s no such thing as too late.”

He added, “In every election, not every candidate wins, but it’s important to support each other to prevent the mistakes of 2023 from happening again. We are happy to see many people who left the party return. Their return strengthens us, and together, we will overcome any opposition in the future.”

The PDP chairman called on party members to support the new executives in fulfilling their mandate of mobilizing party members to win upcoming elections.

Chukwudi Nnadozie, the party’s state secretary, expressed his satisfaction with the return of many former members, especially those who had left in 2023, including those who had joined the Labour Party.

“I was excited when our former members from the Labour Party returned to PDP. Before the 2023 election, the Labour Party had no significant presence in Enugu State, which I believe is why they chose to come back. We’re pleased to have them, and in due time, we will reward their loyalty,” Nnadozie said.
