Three students from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, tragically lost their lives in a road accident on Friday afternoon along the Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye Road.
The accident occurred around 3:30 pm when the driver of a commercial Opel Safira lost control of the vehicle.
According to a statement from the Ogun State Police Command, issued on Saturday by spokesperson Omolola Odutola, the vehicle, with the license plate Lagos AAA-126HE, was speeding towards Ilisan when the driver, Adekunkle Adebiyi, veered off the road and the car flipped into a bush.
One male passenger, believed to be an OOU student, died instantly at the scene.
Two other students, identified as Dada Oluwanifesimi, 18, a sophomore in Mass Communication, and Miracle Ogo Oluwa Daniel, 19, a junior student, were rushed to Love and Care Hospital.
Sadly, both succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
The statement continued, “The male passenger who died at the scene has not yet been identified, but is suspected to be a student of OOU. His body has been taken to the General Hospital Ijebu Ode mortuary.”
In addition, two other students who suffered critical injuries were transferred to the OOU Medical Centre for treatment.
The vehicle involved in the crash has been recovered and is currently stored at the police station.
“The accident vehicle has been recovered and safely stored at the station. Two other students are receiving treatment at the OOU Medical Centre on the Mini Campus. We will provide further updates as more details become available,” Odutola said.
The Ogun State Police Command expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and is continuing its investigation into the accident.
