Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has launched the Abba Care Initiative, enrolling over 300,000 residents in a free health insurance program aimed at improving access to healthcare for vulnerable groups.
The initiative, which is fully funded and managed by the Kano State Contributory Health Management Agency (KCHMA), targets marginalized communities, including pregnant women, senior citizens, people with disabilities, prison inmates, and individuals living with sickle cell anaemia.
Governor Yusuf also revealed plans to establish a state-of-the-art clinic dedicated to providing comprehensive care for sickle cell anaemia patients, highlighting his administration’s commitment to healthcare reform.
Describing the program as a key part of his government’s vision for inclusive governance, the governor emphasized the importance of ensuring that all Kano residents, particularly those in need, have access to free, quality healthcare services.
In addition, during the flag-off of the 2nd Maternal and Neonatal Week 2024 in Kumbotso Local Government Area, Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, confirmed the upcoming commissioning of a specialised clinic for sickle cell anaemia patients at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
The facility will offer a range of free services, including diagnosis, consultations, and surgical treatments.
