Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has described the October 2020 EndSARS protests as one of the most challenging periods of his leadership.

He shared this insight during an interaction with 30 fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy in Ikeja on Monday.

Sanwo-Olu reflected on the difficult times the government faced during the protests, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the welfare of Lagosians.

“We were truly tested as a government, but we must keep the needs of Lagosians at the forefront, despite our own challenges,” he said.

“No difficult moment lasts forever. Focus on creating positive outcomes and ensuring they are heard.”

He further encouraged the fellows to be intentional about honing their leadership skills, recognizing their unique potential.

“Being selected from 16,000 applicants is no small feat, and it shows you have value. Leadership should be something we approach deliberately,” he added.

“You are champions of good leadership—dare to dream big. The only limit to your success is not dreaming big enough.”

Sanwo-Olu also spoke about the legacy of Alhaji Lateef Jakande, after whom the academy is named.

He acknowledged that many of the fellows might not be familiar with Jakande, but highlighted his exemplary leadership, which continues to be celebrated today.

The governor emphasized the importance of courage and perseverance in leadership. “A true leader is one who can endure adversity and remain solution-focused,” he said.

“It is essential for you to stay united, learn tolerance, and build meaningful relationships.”

Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, the academy’s Executive Secretary, expressed gratitude to the governor for his address.

The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy aims to foster a generation of young, change-driven individuals who are committed to shaping Nigeria’s future.
