The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, celebrated Christmas with the troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and frontline soldiers from the 8 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Sokoto, on Thursday.
During the event, held at Giginya Barracks, General Musa emphasized that there would be no foreign military bases in Nigeria.
He reassured the troops and the public, stating, “The Nigerian Armed Forces have the capacity to defend our territorial integrity and address any form of aggression, whether local or foreign. We will not allow any part of Nigeria to be used as a foreign military base.”
In response to a recent airstrike in Sokoto, General Musa issued a stern warning to those aiding criminals, particularly bandits, saying that individuals who harbor such groups would be considered accomplices.
“Anyone who shelters criminals will face consequences,” he declared. “If you act like a rat, be prepared for the cat to chase you.”
He also called for unity among citizens in the fight against criminal elements, urging that collaboration with neighboring countries and communities was vital.
“Do not support criminals. Anyone harboring them is a target in this fight against insecurity,” he stated.
General Musa extended his gratitude to Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and all military personnel for their ongoing sacrifices in combating the nation’s security challenges.
He also expressed his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support and strategic direction, promising that the Armed Forces would remain focused on defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities.
In his remarks, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended the troops for their achievements over the past year and urged them to maintain vigilance, discipline, and professionalism.
The event featured cultural performances by the Tiv Cultural Troupe, a symbolic meal serving by the CDS, the presentation of souvenirs to the troops, and a group photo session, highlighting the military’s commitment to boosting morale and troop welfare, especially during the festive season.
