The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the release of Delta State’s Accountant General, Joy Enwa, after she was arrested last week in connection with the alleged misappropriation of N1.3 trillion.
This sum is reportedly linked to the former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
Enwa, along with two others, was detained by the EFCC in Port Harcourt.
Sources indicate that the two other individuals arrested were the former Director of Finance and Administration (DFA), Ekeruche, and an administration officer from the Government House.
Their arrests were part of the ongoing investigation into the diversion of the 13 percent derivation fund allocated to oil-producing states.
In November 2024, Okowa himself was arrested by the EFCC in relation to these allegations.
Enwa, who was appointed as the state’s Accountant General by Okowa in 2020, had been under investigation by the EFCC’s Port Harcourt division, which is handling the case.
Following her release, Enwa and the other individuals are required to report to the EFCC in Port Harcourt for further questioning as the investigation continues.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the release and stated that the arrests were made to facilitate questioning regarding the misappropriated funds, which are under investigation.
