On Christmas Day, US President-elect Donald Trump took to social media to express his displeasure with President Joe Biden’s decision to grant clemency to 37 federal death-row inmates.

Biden commuted the sentences of these inmates to life in prison without the possibility of parole, sparking a harsh response from Trump.

In his message on Truth Social, Trump slammed Biden’s move, referring to the inmates as “the 37 most violent criminals” who had committed horrific crimes.

He condemned Biden for issuing what he called an “incredible” pardon, and instead of offering a holiday greeting, Trump wrote, “GO TO HELL!” to the former death-row inmates.

Trump also voiced strong criticism of Biden’s clemency decision, pledging that, should he return to office, he would instruct his Department of Justice to aggressively seek the death penalty in future cases.

He further mocked Biden, referring to the clemency decision as a sign of weakness, claiming it was a “pardon” for those who had “killed, raped, and plundered like virtually no one before them.”

The decision to grant clemency to all but three of the 40 federal inmates on death row was made by Biden on Monday, sparking backlash from conservative circles.

While clemency decisions are irreversible, Trump’s statement reflected his continuing opposition to Biden’s policies, particularly on matters of criminal justice.

Trump’s Christmas message also included a jab at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, calling him “Governor” instead of Prime Minister.

Trump suggested that if Canada were to join the U.S. as its 51st state, it would see significant reductions in taxes and an economic boom.

He also claimed that Canada’s military would benefit from stronger protections under U.S. defense.
