The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of 13 wedding guests by bandits disguised in military uniforms.

The incident occurred when the victims were en route to a wedding in Kogi State and were kidnapped in Ekiti Local Government Area.

In a statement released over the weekend, the police detailed the successful rescue operation, which involved a joint effort by security forces.

Police spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi (DSP), reported that the victims included three females, 10 males, and a group of trailer drivers traveling to Kogi State.

Two of the victims sustained minor gunshot wounds, but they were promptly given medical attention at a nearby hospital and later reunited with their families.

Ejire-Adeyemi explained that the rescue operation was launched based on credible intelligence, supported by local informants.

The security team quickly located the kidnappers’ hideout in the Idofin-Igbana area.

Upon confronting the criminals, six kidnappers, some of whom were dressed in military attire, engaged in a shootout with the police.

Despite the gunfire, the rescue team managed to overpower the kidnappers, who fled the scene, leaving their captives behind.

The suspects, believed to have sustained injuries during the exchange, escaped into the surrounding area.
