His Grace, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, retired Anglican Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, has been safely released from captivity along with his driver after spending 25 days in the hands of their captors.

The duo was abducted by unknown gunmen on December 7, 2024, along the Nnewi-Okigwe Road in Anambra State.

DAILY GAZETTE reports that he Archbishop and his driver were freed on January 1, 2025, following a combination of negotiation efforts and intense security operations.

However, the police did not disclose whether any ransom was paid.
