The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called on President Bola Tinubu to order the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), stating that doing so would secure his place in history.
In a statement on Friday, President-General of Ohanaeze, Nze Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu, welcomed President Tinubu to the South-East ahead of his official visit to Enugu State on Saturday.
Chukwu praised what he termed an “attitudinal change” by the Tinubu administration towards the Igbo nation, highlighting a new direction in the relationship between the Federal Government and the South-East.
“The release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would cement President Tinubu’s name in gold in the hearts of Ndigbo and well-meaning Nigerians,” said Chukwu, as quoted by the organization’s spokesman, Alex Ogbonnia.
The statement also commended the achievements of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, citing his “disruptive and innovative” infrastructure development initiatives, including the construction of Enugu International Conference Centre, smart schools, hospitals, and major road projects.
The Ohanaeze leadership also praised Senator Hope Odidika Uzodimma, Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, for the installation of night landing equipment at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri, which has significantly improved air travel in the region.
Ohanaeze wished President Tinubu a safe and successful trip to Enugu, where he is expected to receive the renowned hospitality of the Igbo people.
