The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pledged to produce more state governors and reclaim national leadership in the 2027 elections.
This declaration was made during a visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, at his country home in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
Speaking for the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), National Treasurer Alhaji Ahmed Yayare emphasized that widespread dissatisfaction due to ongoing economic challenges would fuel the party’s victory in 2027.
He argued that the PDP is the only viable opposition capable of toppling the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that failure to take power could jeopardize Nigeria’s democracy.
Yayare pointed out the dire economic conditions in the country, stating, “The cry of hunger and poverty is too much in the land,” and that Nigerians were yearning for the PDP’s return.
He also called on PDP governors to unite and strengthen the party’s resolve, with plans to canvass support in PDP-controlled states ahead of the next election.
The NWC’s visit was also a moment to express condolences to Governor Diri over the deaths of Deputy Inspector General of Police (rtd) Moses Jituboh and Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei.
PDP National Secretary, Ude Okoye, affirmed the NWC’s determination to reposition the party and provide Nigerians with an alternative leadership.
He praised Governor Diri for his leadership and Bayelsa’s developmental progress under his administration.
In response, Governor Diri stressed the importance of unity within the party, underscoring that as the leading opposition, the PDP must remain cohesive and focused.
He urged his fellow governors to work together, stating that the party must prioritize its unity and the country’s welfare above personal interests.
Diri also voiced his support for the idea of forming a broader coalition to ensure the PDP’s success in the upcoming elections, adding that it was essential to strengthen the party to address Nigeria’s current challenges.
