Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Professor John Ebeh, a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, and demanded a ransom of N10 million for his release.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Thursday when the gunmen invaded Professor Ebeh’s residence in Agbeji, a suburb of Anyigba in Dekina Local Government Area.

The abductors reportedly fired gunshots to intimidate locals before seizing the professor.

One neighbor, who requested to remain anonymous, described the event, saying, “The gunmen were quick and precise. We saw a car following Professor Ebeh, but we didn’t think much of it until we heard gunshots near his gate.”

A family source disclosed that the professor was nearing his house after returning from town when a vehicle blocked his path, and masked gunmen emerged to abduct him at gunpoint.

The abductors later contacted the family on Friday evening, demanding a ransom of N10 million.

While the university authorities have not yet released a statement, a colleague of Professor Ebeh expressed shock over the kidnapping, stating, “This is a sad and unexpected event. I have visited his family to offer my condolences.”

As of the time of this report, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Williams Aya, had not responded to inquiries about the incident.
