A heartbreaking accident occurred over the weekend in the Kwana Maciji area of Pankshin Local Government Area, Plateau State, claiming the lives of 19 wedding guests and injuring 11 others.
The victims, who had traveled from Kano State to attend a wedding in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, were on their way home when the tragedy struck.
John Dasar, Chairman of the Pankshin Local Government Area Emergency Management Committee, confirmed that the travelers were returning via the Gindiri-Bauchi route when the accident occurred.
As the passengers were being rescued from the vehicle, it caught fire, resulting in the deaths of 19 people who were still inside.
“The accident took place on Saturday. The victims were from Kano, attending a wedding in Barkin Ladi, and were on their way back,” Dasar explained.
“While the driver and a few others survived, the 19 victims were burnt beyond recognition as the vehicle caught fire while they were being helped out.”
The incident has left the community in mourning, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.
