The Ondo State local government election, held on Saturday, began with a visible heavy security presence across the state.
Personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were stationed at key polling stations and strategic locations.
Security operatives were seen at major roads and key sites as early as 7:00 am, including the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) office in Akure and the Airport Road in Akure North Local Government Area (LGA).
In various parts of the state, such as the Agbogbo roundabout, Fiwasaye/Mobil junction, and Oba Adesida Road in Akure, teams of security personnel enforced a movement restriction order, turning back non-essential vehicles and individuals.
Similarly, security agents were visible in Okitipupa and surrounding areas, ensuring safety on major roads and at polling units. Despite the heavy security, some residents went about their daily activities.
Youths were seen playing soccer at the Ijapo Housing Estate field and at Ward 10 Unit, Odo-Ikoyi in Akure South LGA, while commercial activities, including shops and food vendors, continued in some parts of the state.
