Ondo State Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, have praised the smooth conduct of the ongoing local government elections across the state.
The election, which is being held in all 18 local government areas, has seen participation from no fewer than 12 political parties across 203 wards.
Governor Aiyedatiwa criticized the last-minute withdrawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the election, calling it an act of “cowardice.”
He stated, “For the PDP to pull out, that is cowardness. They participated in the whole process, the ODIEC released the timetable for the election. I don’t know the reason for that. Maybe the fear of losing, every election has its own logistics and other political parties are participating whatever reason that made them withdraw, I am not privy to that.”
Aiyedatiwa, who cast his vote at Polling Unit 5, Ugbo Ward 4 in Ilaje Local Government, emphasized that the election is a step forward for grassroots development and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the local government system in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Adelami, who voted at Unit 16, Igboroko 2, Ward 3, Owo Local Government, expressed satisfaction with the voter turnout and urged more citizens to exercise their civic duties.
He added, “It is important to vote in this election to enable us to deepen delivery of good governance at the grassroots level because it is the tier of government that is closest to the people.”
