The Alliance for All Labour Party Professionals and Stakeholders (AALPS) has expressed grave concerns over the alleged destabilisation of the Labour Party by Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate.
In a statement issued by the group’s National Convener, Dr. Blessing Elaigwu, AALPS warned that Obi’s actions were putting the party’s future at risk and could have disastrous consequences in the 2027 general elections.
The group accused Obi of fostering division and litigation within the party, which it believes is undermining its unity and growth.
AALPS specifically pointed to Obi’s alleged role in supporting an attempt to replace the Labour Party’s legitimate leadership, headed by Julius Abure, with his supporters during a contentious stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia last year.
Elaigwu emphasised that the ongoing infighting within the party was hindering its progress, especially as other political parties are already planning for 2027.
He added that Obi’s actions were weakening the party’s foundation and betraying the trust placed in him by millions of Nigerians.
