President Bola Tinubu has departed Abuja for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, which will be held from January 27 to January 28.
The summit is being hosted by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the World Bank and the African Development Bank Group.
In a statement released on Saturday, Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that the president would join other African leaders, private sector representatives, development partners, and civil society organizations to discuss ways to accelerate energy access across the continent.
Onanuga explained that the summit would serve as a platform to share knowledge and resources, focusing on issues such as expanding energy access to underserved areas, promoting renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and attracting private sector investment.
On the first day of the summit, countries, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies, referred to as compacts, outlining plans to achieve universal energy access within the next five years.
On the second day, heads of state will sign the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will chart a unified path toward Africa’s energy goals under the Mission 300 initiative.
President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national statement reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its leadership in Africa’s energy sector.
He will also highlight Nigeria’s clean energy projects and its strategy for integrated energy solutions across the continent.
Joining President Tinubu on the trip are the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Olu Verheijen, and other senior government officials.
