The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has confirmed that Air Peace compensated 220 passengers for flight disruptions that occurred in November 2024.
The details of the compensations were shared through the NCAA’s official X account on Monday, along with supporting documents that outlined the compensation process.
The documents provided by the NCAA revealed specifics such as flight numbers, routes, dates, passenger loads, discount percentages, and reasons for compensation.
For example, on November 1, 2024, 12 passengers on flight 7100 from Lagos to Warri received a 65% discount due to operational reasons.
On November 2, 2024, 11 passengers on flight 7102 from Abuja to Enugu were given a 65% discount for a business class downgrade.
Another instance involved 27 passengers on flight 7170 from Lagos to Benin City, who were compensated with a 25% discount due to short landed bags.
The document, which was signed by NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, contained key information regarding the disruptions, the flight schedules, and the compensation details, including the dates and reasons for the compensations.
The incidents occurred throughout November 2024, with compensation rates ranging from 25% to 65%, depending on the nature of the disruption.
The reasons for compensation were varied and included operational issues, business class downgrades, technical faults with aircraft, baggage mishandling, and even the temporary closure of Warri Airport.
One notable incident on November 16, 2024, saw 129 passengers on flight 7170 from Lagos to Benin City receiving a 25% discount due to operational challenges.
The NCAA also noted that Aero Contractors provided similar compensations, such as economy and business class tickets, for disruptions during the same period.
