The Nigeria Police Force has refuted claims that the chairman of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Gado, was arrested, clarifying that he was only invited for questioning following a petition filed against him.
In a statement issued on Monday, Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi explained that Gado’s invitation was in response to a petition received by the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Group on January 17.
Adejobi emphasized that Gado, as a public servant, should cooperate with the authorities in the investigation process rather than attempting to draw media attention.
“The Nigeria Police Force has taken note of recent claims made by Mr. Muhuyi Gado regarding his alleged arrest. We wish to clarify that he was not arrested but invited by the police after receiving a petition against him on January 17, 2025,” the statement read.
The spokesperson reiterated that the police had followed proper investigative procedures and invited Gado to engage with officials.
He also urged the media and the public to avoid spreading misinformation that could cause confusion or unnecessary panic.
Adejobi further stated that the Force remains committed to adhering to the rule of law and due process in all its investigations.
