Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Tems has won her second Grammy Award, taking home the Best African Music Performance trophy at the 67th Grammy Awards.
Her song Love Me Jeje emerged victorious in a highly competitive category dominated by Afrobeats stars, with Chris Brown being the only non-Afrobeats nominee.
Tems triumphed over fellow Nigerian artists Burna Boy, Asake, and Wizkid for their track MMS, as well as Yemi Alade and Davido, who featured on Chris Brown’s Sensational alongside Lojay.
During her acceptance speech, Tems expressed gratitude to God and dedicated the award to her mother, whose birthday falls the day after the ceremony.
“Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team,” she said.
“Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammys. I just want to thank you, ma, because she has really done a lot for me and my brother. Happy birthday, mum.”
She also acknowledged her team, mentioning Muyiwa, Wale, her stylist, and others who have supported her journey.
“To God be the glory. Honestly, He has changed my life so much,” she added.
