Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso met with ex-Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola at his Lagos residence on Saturday to discuss national issues and the state of Nigeria’s democracy.

Kwankwaso, who shared details of the meeting via his social media handle, emphasized the importance of the discussions.

“This evening, I had the pleasure of visiting the former Governor of Osun State and former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, at his residence in Lagos.

The meeting afforded us the opportunity to engage in discussions on national politics, governance, and the future of Nigeria’s democratic landscape,” he wrote on X.

The meeting comes at a time when opposition figures are being urged to form a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of future elections.

Aregbesola, once a close ally of President Bola Tinubu, distanced himself from the president following a political rift over the second-term ambition of former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

After Aregbesola’s tenure as governor, Oyetola succeeded him and later served as Minister under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

Kwankwaso, a two-time Kano governor and former minister, contested the 2023 presidential election under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
