The Edo State Police Command has announced the rescue of His Royal Highness, Friday Ehizojie, the Onogie of Udo-Eguare in Igueben Local Government Area, days after he was kidnapped.

The monarch was abducted on February 3 while traveling on a commercial motorcycle through a forested area between Ubiaja and Udo community.

The assailants shot and killed the motorcycle rider before seizing the traditional ruler.

Confirming the rescue, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, credited the success to sustained search and rescue operations carried out by the police in collaboration with vigilante groups.

“The command is pleased to inform the public that the intensive efforts to secure the release of the Onogie of Udo-Eguare have yielded positive results,” Yamu said.

He noted that Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, had assured the public of the monarch’s safe return, a promise that has now been fulfilled.

The rescue operation, he added, was made possible through the logistical support provided by Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

He also commended local vigilantes, hunters, and other community members who contributed to the effort.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
