A young man, Ibrahim Mohammed, has been stabbed to death over his refusal to surrender his phone to suspected hoodlums in Katsina state.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning at Danja Road, Kasuwan Mata area, in Funtua Local Government Area.
The deceased, popularly known as Elalen, was said to have come out to pray in a mosque close to his residence when he was accosted by suspected hoodlums.
“They demanded he surrender his phone to them, threatening him with a knife, but he refused and a scuffle ensued thereafter,” a source in the area said.
It was during the scuffle that the deceased was fatally stabbed.
The incident has sent shock waves to the community where the deceased resides, with members of his family left to mourn over the demise.
Mohammed was buried at about 10:00 am on Tuesday according to Islamic rites, even as sympathizers have continued to troop to his residence to sympathize with members of his family.
The spokesperson for the police command in the state, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, had yet to speak on the incident at the end of filing this report.
