Governor Fubara,
The Pan Niger Delta Youths (PANDYEF) has strongly condemned the Supreme Court ruling that upheld the legitimacy of the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly, describing it as an invitation to chaos in the state and the Niger Delta region.
Amaewhule and his group, originally elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The legality of their defection was challenged in court, but the Supreme Court ruled in their favor, directing them to resume their legislative functions.
Additionally, the apex court issued an order stopping the allocation of funds from the Federation Account to Rivers State.
Reacting to the judgment, PANDYEF, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Chika Art Adiele, labeled the ruling as “economic sabotage” against the people of Rivers State.
The group warned that the verdict could destabilize the peace and progress achieved under Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
“The Pan Niger Delta Youths, under the leadership of Comrade Maobu Nangi Obu, strongly condemns the shocking Supreme Court verdict ordering the seizure of Rivers State’s federal allocation. This judgment is nothing short of economic sabotage against Rivers people,” the statement read.
The group further accused the Supreme Court of siding with political forces seeking to undermine democracy in the state.
“This ruling is an attempt to destabilize Rivers State and plunge it into crisis. It is against the principles of equity, justice, and fair play. The court has positioned itself as a political actor rather than an impartial arbiter of justice,” PANDYEF stated.
The group also criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to nullify the recent local government elections, calling it “reckless and vindictive.”
Warning against what it described as a judicial power grab, PANDYEF vowed that any attempt to impose leadership on Rivers State through court rulings would be met with stiff resistance from the Niger Delta youths.
“We will not stand by while our people are deprived of their rights through judicial manipulations. The majority of Rivers people will fiercely resist any attempt to seize power through the courts,” the statement concluded.
