An Abia State High Court sitting in Obehie, Ukwa West Local Government Area, has issued an order stopping the enforcement of the suspension of former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara.

The ruling, delivered by Justice L.T.C. Eruba on February 25, 2025, restrained the Abia PDP leadership under Acting Chairman Abraham Amah from executing Wabara’s suspension.

Wabara, in suit number HUK/8/2025, had taken legal action against Amah, seeking an injunction to prevent the implementation of the suspension.

The court upheld his request, ruling that Amah and the Abia PDP cannot enforce any disciplinary action against Wabara pending the determination of the substantive motion.

“The defendant is restrained from enforcing the suspension of the claimant/applicant from the Peoples Democratic Party or in any way affecting his position as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP till the motion on notice is determined,” the court ruled.

The controversy surrounding Wabara’s suspension erupted after Amah, a former Vice Chairman of the PDP in Abia North, announced disciplinary action against him, accusing him of engaging in anti-party activities.

The allegation stemmed from Wabara’s praise of Abia State Governor Alex Otti for his developmental strides, particularly the reconstruction of the long-neglected Port Harcourt Road in Aba.

Wabara had publicly stated that Otti’s performance warranted another term in office, a comment the Abia PDP viewed as a betrayal.

However, the PDP National Working Committee swiftly intervened, declaring the suspension “null, void, and of no effect,” citing procedural breaches in the party’s constitution.

Several party stakeholders, including PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, also criticized Amah’s actions, arguing that he lacked the authority to suspend a Board of Trustees Chairman.
