The Federal Government has appointed Professor Lucian Chukwu as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Admiralty University, Ibuzor, Delta State, for a single five-year tenure, effective February 28, 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Federal Ministry of Education, which confirmed that Prof. Chukwu emerged as the highest-scoring candidate in the selection process conducted by the university’s Governing Council.

Before his appointment, Prof. Chukwu served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services) at the University of Lagos.

The selection process had been the subject of controversy, with some stakeholders alleging attempts to undermine merit.

However, according to the Director of Press and Public Relations at the ministry, Folasade Boriowo, the selection was based on merit, as Prof. Chukwu secured 83.41% of the total votes among five candidates interviewed.

“The Governing Council of Admiralty University, Ibuzor, conducted the selection exercise on February 26 and 27, 2025, at the university’s Council Chamber. At the end of the process, Professor Lucian O. Chukwu emerged as the highest scorer with 83.41%,” Boriowo stated.

She further emphasized that the Federal Government remains committed to upholding merit in such appointments, and as a result, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, approved Chukwu’s appointment.

“The Honourable Minister extends his best wishes to the new Vice-Chancellor for a successful tenure in office,” the statement concluded.
