Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the sum of N634 million for the payment of the 2024/2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees for students in public secondary schools across the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Akure by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan.

According to the statement, the initiative aims to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians while ensuring that eligible students have access to their final secondary school examinations.

The funding will cover 23,048 students who successfully passed the Joint Senior Secondary School II Promotion Examination, conducted by the state’s Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.

“For years, the Ondo State Government has shouldered the cost of WASSCE registration for students in public schools, providing significant relief to parents and stakeholders, particularly amid prevailing economic difficulties,” the statement read.

It further emphasized that the WASSCE is a crucial academic milestone, serving as a gateway to higher education and career opportunities.

By funding the registration fees, the government aims to eliminate financial barriers, ensuring all eligible candidates can sit for the exam regardless of their socio-economic background.

Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustaining this policy, emphasizing that education remains a top priority in his developmental agenda for the state.
