The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Rev. Stephen Mamza, has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilance groups for their efforts in rescuing two kidnapped Catholic priests in Adamawa State.
Speaking at a press briefing in Yola on Monday, Bishop Mamza expressed gratitude for the professionalism and dedication displayed by the security operatives in securing the release of Reverend Fathers Abraham Samman and Matthew Dusami.
The two clergymen, serving in the Yola and Jalingo Dioceses, were abducted on February 22.
The bishop also addressed misinformation regarding the alleged mastermind of the abduction, Tahamado Damian, clarifying that while he was a member of the church, he was neither a mass server nor a cleric.
“We deeply appreciate the sacrifices made by the DSS and local vigilante members, whose tireless efforts ensured the safe return of our priests. I also want to thank the public for their prayers and unwavering support during this difficult period,” Mamza stated.
He further revealed that the rescued priests had undergone thorough medical evaluations and were in stable health.
