An explosion has reportedly occurred at an oil facility in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State, according to unconfirmed sources.
A local source claimed that the explosion took place at a manifold connected to a federal pipeline in the Okwawriwa area of ONELGA on Tuesday morning.
The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, alleged that residents awoke to find a massive fire raging at the facility, which is situated at a considerable distance from residential areas.
According to the source, the affected facility transports petroleum products from Seplat, Agip, and Shell, moving crude oil from ONELGA and parts of Imo State to Brass in Bayelsa State.
This incident occurred less than 12 hours after another fire engulfed the Trans-Niger Pipeline, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), which conveys crude oil to Bonny Terminal.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause of the fires at both facilities had not been determined.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command had earlier issued a statement on the Trans-Niger Pipeline explosion in Gokana LGA, confirming that an investigation had been launched into the incident.
The police also disclosed that two individuals had been detained for questioning concerning the Trans-Niger Pipeline explosion.
