The South-East chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has extended an invitation to several prominent figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former ministers Rauf Aregbesola and Rotimi Amaechi, urging them to join the party as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The appeal was made by Chief Sir Arinze Ekelem, the national vice chairman of the party for the South-East, in a statement released on Thursday in Awka, Anambra State.
Ekelem emphasized that the SDP offers a new political direction and is welcoming to leaders who are committed to the nation’s development.
“The SDP is a party that values inclusivity and provides a platform for Nigerians looking for a new political path to help rescue the country. We invite you to join this movement for a stronger and better Nigeria,” Ekelem stated.
He also reiterated the full support of the South-East zone for the party’s national chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, and the National Working Committee (NWC), praising their efforts to reposition the party for future success.
Ekelem highlighted that the party’s growing appeal, reflected in the high-profile defections, indicates increasing confidence in its leadership and vision, particularly as the nation heads toward the 2027 elections.
