Labour Party House of Assembly candidate for Igboetiti East Constituency in the 2023 general elections in Enugu State, Hon. Johncross Enyivigbo, has officially announced his resignation from the Labour Party and subsequent defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing teeming supporters and PDP leaders at his Ukehe Ward 2 in Igboetiti on Friday, Enyivigbo cited the recent departure of the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, as a key factor influencing his decision.

According to him, internal wrangling and a perceived lack of direction within the Labour Party following Edeoga’s exit had left many loyal members disillusioned.

“After deep reflection and consultations with my political base, I have decided to move to the PDP, a party with a clearer structure, tested leadership, and a more realistic approach to governance in Enugu State,” Enyivigbo declared.

He also confirmed that his political structure in Igboetiti West, including coordinators and grassroots mobilizers, have joined him in the move.

“Politics is about people and progress. Our people deserve representation anchored on experience, stability, and proven development frameworks. The PDP provides that platform,” he added.

While expressing gratitude to the Labour Party for the opportunity to serve as its candidate, Enyivigbo stated that the journey forward requires alignment with a party that resonates more with his political ideals and aspirations for his constituency.

Welcoming him to the party, the former Labour Party governorship candidate in Enugu State, Barr. Chijioke Edeoga, described Enyivigbo’s move as a commendable step, noting that the PDP under Governor Peter Mbah is well-positioned to deliver good governance in the state.

Also speaking, the PDP chairman in Igboetiti Local Government Area described Enyivigbo’s return as a “homecoming,” emphasizing that the party remains open to all progressive-minded individuals willing to contribute to the development of Enugu State.

In attendance at the event were the Ward Chairman of PDP in Ukehe Ward 2, the Igboetiti Local Government PDP Chairman, the State Organizing Secretary of the PDP, the Zonal Chairman of the party, and representatives of the Council Chairman, among other party faithful.
