The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially sworn in 1,071 corps members from the 2025 Batch A Stream 1 set, who have been deployed to Enugu for their mandatory one-year national service.

During the swearing-in ceremony held on Friday at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Awgu Local Government Area, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Oluwakemi Awolola, announced that the corps members include 471 males and 600 females.

Awolola congratulated the newly sworn-in corps members, encouraging them to engage fully in all orientation activities, emphasizing that indiscipline would not be tolerated.

She stressed that the orientation camp is designed to help them understand the NYSC scheme and familiarize themselves with the culture, language, and empowerment opportunities in their host communities.

“Your evaluation begins right here in the camp. You must adhere to camp rules and show respect for camp officials,” she said.

The coordinator also praised Governor Peter Mbah for approving the solar borehole project in the camp to improve water supply for the corps members and camp staff.

She also thanked the Awgu Local Government Chairman, Mr. Uchenna Okolo, for his efforts in repairing the camp’s perimeter fence, fixing the camp generator, and clearing the environment for the corps members.

Governor Mbah, represented by the Enugu State Commissioner for Environment, Prof. Sam Ugwu, urged the corps members to contribute positively to national development and their host communities.

He also highlighted his administration’s plans to renovate the orientation camp to create a better training environment for the corps members.

In his address, the Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice Raymond Ozoemena, administered the oath of allegiance, reminding the corps members to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the country.

“Make the most of the opportunity Nigeria has given you to succeed,” Justice Ozoemena said.

“You are all here as citizens of one united nation, irrespective of your diverse backgrounds and cultures. Your loyalty belongs to Nigeria.”
