Governor Alex Otti has removed Professor Onyemachi Ogbolu from his position as Vice Chancellor of Abia State University and appointed Professor Ndukwe Okeudo as his successor.

Additionally, the Governor has approved the release of the full report of the White Paper from the Visitation Panel that investigated the university’s management activities.

Prince Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, made the announcement during a press briefing following this week’s Executive Council meeting in Umuahia.

He noted that a new management team and Governing Council for the university have also been approved.

The new appointments will take effect on November 1, 2024.

The new Management team includes Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, a former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, as Pro-Chancellor; Mrs. Cathrine Uju Ifejika as Chancellor; and Dr. Onwubiko Dike as a member of the Governing Council.

Additional members will include two Deputy Vice Chancellors, a new Bursar, four Senate members, two members of the congregation, one member of Convocation, and a representative from the State Ministry of Tertiary Education.

Commissioner Kanu emphasized that the release of the White Paper aligns with the Governor’s commitment to reforming the education system and enhancing the state’s overall quality of education.

“The visitation panel was established to identify the university’s challenges and propose solutions. This marks the beginning of a series of reforms initiated with these appointments,” he stated.
