Professor Bernard Odoh has been appointed as the 7th Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, following his strong performance in a selection interview held on Tuesday.
The Governing Council, led by Pro-Chancellor Ambassador Greg Mbadiwe, made the announcement, noting that Odoh outperformed 18 other candidates.
The appointment, effective for five years starting October 29, 2024, is in accordance with relevant legislative acts.

In his acceptance speech, Odoh expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and emphasized his deep connection to the university as its first alumnus to serve in this role.
He stated, “Judge me by my performance, not hearsay. I am here to serve, and our university will advance.”
A distinguished scholar in Applied Geophysics, Odoh has a notable academic background, having earned all his degrees from UNIZIK.

He has held various leadership roles within the university and has over 120 research publications.
His previous experience includes serving as Secretary to the State Government of Ebonyi State and as a professor at the Federal University, Gusau.
Odoh’s extensive affiliations with professional organizations, combined with his leadership experience, position him well to enhance UNIZIK’s mission of academic excellence.
