Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt on October 28, 2024, at approximately 7:10 p.m. on the Neke-Uno axis of the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road.
A statement made available to DAILY GAZETTE by the Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, states: “Following an intense gun battle, the suspects fled the scene, leaving behind an AK-47 rifle, two magazines containing 22 rounds, and an additional 39 live rounds.”

“In a subsequent operation that night, a university lecturer who had been reportedly kidnapped on October 26 managed to escape from his captors.”
The police command also addressed circulating rumors regarding the alleged kidnapping of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer traveling from Benue State, asserting that no such incident has occurred in Enugu.
Officials emphasized that claims regarding the danger of the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road are baseless and a form of scaremongering.
In response to these incidents, Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu ordered the deployment of additional personnel and resources to enhance security measures along the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road.
