President Bola Tinubu has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the Acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Nigerian Army.
This announcement was made by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Wednesday.
Major General Oluyede’s appointment comes as the current Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, is receiving medical treatment abroad.

Until Lagbaja’s return, Oluyede will serve in this interim role.
Prior to this appointment, Oluyede was the 56th Commander of the Infantry Corps, stationed in Jaji, Kaduna.
He is a 56-year-old officer and a coursemate of Lagbaja, both being members of the 39th Regular Course.
Oluyede was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1992 and achieved the rank of Major General in September 2020.
Throughout his career, Oluyede has held numerous command positions, including Platoon Commander, Company Commander, and Commandant of the Amphibious Training School.
He has been involved in key military operations, such as the ECOMOG mission in Liberia and Operation HADIN KAI in Nigeria’s northeastern region, where he led the 27 Task Force Brigade.

Oluyede’s service has been recognized with various awards, including the Corps Medal of Honour, the Grand Service Star, and membership in the National Institute.
