President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to depart Nigeria for Brazil to attend the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro.

This announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Sunday.

The upcoming trip to Brazil comes just five days after President Tinubu returned to Abuja from Saudi Arabia, where he attended the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh.

The summit, hosted by King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, focused on pressing issues in the Middle East.

Onanuga revealed that Tinubu’s participation in the G20 Summit is at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who currently holds the presidency of the G20.

The summit, scheduled from November 18 to 19, will bring together leaders from the world’s largest economies, as well as representatives from the European Union, the African Union, and major global financial institutions.

The theme of this year’s summit, “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” will see leaders discuss key global issues, including the fight against hunger and poverty, global governance reforms, sustainable development, and energy transition.

Nigeria, under President Tinubu’s leadership, has been a vocal advocate for reforms in global governance institutions and continues to push for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

At the summit, Tinubu is expected to advocate for these reforms and engage in bilateral meetings to advance Nigeria’s socio-economic agenda.

The President will be accompanied by top government officials, including Foreign Minister Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Ministers of Livestock Development Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Arts, Tourism, Culture and Creativity Hannatu Musawa, State Minister for Agriculture and Food Security Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, and Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria upon the conclusion of the summit.
