Two suspects have been arrested in connection with armed robbery and kidnapping at a native doctor’s shrine in Uru, Abagana, within Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The arrest of Ikechukwu Okafor, 30, and Nweze Chijindu, 38, followed a rescue operation by joint security forces, including the police and Anambra Vigilantes.
The operation, which took place on Friday evening, was prompted by the testimony of a recently freed kidnap victim, who was found near Abagana Girls Secondary School.
According to a statement from SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, the police launched a manhunt for two other suspects still on the run, Supuluchukwu Nweze and Sunday Nwakanze.
During the bust, authorities recovered a pump-action shotgun, the victim’s car, a rope, a horsewhip, and other incriminating items.
The investigation revealed that the victim was initially contacted by phone by one of the suspects, Sunday Nwakanze, before being abducted at gunpoint, stripped of valuables, and taken to the shrine. There, the victim was bound with rope and gagged.
The arrested suspects have confessed to their roles in the crime and are cooperating with authorities to help apprehend the remaining members of the criminal gang.
Anambra State Police Command has reassured the public of its continued commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents.
