President Bola Tinubu has authorized the release of funds to address the outstanding pension arrears, salary increases, and other entitlements owed to retired military personnel.
This decision comes after two days of peaceful protests by military veterans at the Federal Ministry of Finance.
Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, announced the directive on Friday, expressing gratitude to the President for his swift response.
Matawalle praised Tinubu for facilitating the immediate payment of a three-month salary increase and the release of funds to clear pension arrears and other dues.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, military personnel have begun receiving payment notifications for the salary increases.
The Minister lauded President Tinubu’s dedication to the welfare of both active and retired military personnel, highlighting the administration’s commitment to resolving pension arrears and improving the well-being of those who have served the country.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, in ensuring the successful disbursement of funds.
Matawalle urged the Nigerian military to remain focused on their duties, assuring them that the President is determined to bolster morale and provide the necessary support to tackle insecurity across the country.
He emphasized the importance of the military in addressing insurgency, terrorism, and other security threats, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving the security situation and supporting the armed forces in their efforts to safeguard the nation.
