The Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has apprehended Ifeanyi Okonkwo, a suspect caught on Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) stealing a mobile phone at an eatery in Ikeja, Lagos.

According to a statement and video released by the RRS on Monday, the theft occurred on November 7, 2024, when Okonkwo visited the restaurant to buy food but instead stole a Samsung A15 phone belonging to another diner.

The police said Okonkwo was unaware that his actions were being recorded by the restaurant’s security cameras as he discreetly took the phone from the counter.

Interestingly, Okonkwo returned to the same restaurant on December 5, 2024, not realizing that the authorities were monitoring him.

He was promptly identified and arrested by RRS operatives nearby.

The statement confirmed that the stolen phone was recovered from the individual who had bought it, and Okonkwo has since been charged in court for the theft.
