Human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, has denied sending anyone to plead with Afe Babalola (SAN), who has taken him to court for defamation over his book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.
Farotimi is currently standing trial in Ekiti State following a petition filed by Babalola.
Recently, there were reports that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, visited Babalola, with some suggesting that the visit was to make a plea on Farotimi’s behalf.
However, in an interview on the Sunday edition of Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, Temokun, a lawyer representing Farotimi, clarified that Farotimi had firmly rejected any notion that he had sent someone to intervene on his behalf.
Temokun shared that during a prison visit on Friday, Farotimi expressed his disapproval of the rumors, stating that anyone familiar with his principles would know that he would never beg anyone, nor would he send someone to do so on his behalf.
Farotimi’s lawyer further explained that, during their meeting, Farotimi emphasized his disappointment at the idea that anyone, including his legal team, might believe he had requested someone to plead for him.
Farotimi was adamant that he would not participate in any negotiations or out-of-court settlements in this matter.
