The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt on December 24, rescuing 10 passengers at Kwanar Makera in Jibia Local Government Area.
According to Police spokesperson ASP Abubakar Aliyu, the incident occurred around 8:30 pm when a group of armed bandits attacked a commercial vehicle on the Katsina-Magama-Jibia road.
The bandits opened fire, attempting to abduct the 10 occupants.
Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia swiftly deployed a team of officers who engaged the assailants in a gun battle.
The police managed to foil the kidnapping and safely rescued all 10 passengers.
Unfortunately, four of the victims sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and were rushed to the hospital.
Two of them later succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
Police authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, praised the officers for their bravery and commitment during the operation.
He also urged the public to provide the police with valuable information to aid in combating criminal activities.
