A 23-year-old man, Rabiu Gambo, has been sentenced by a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court to sweep the court premises for 40 days after he pleaded guilty to stealing a wallet.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel imposed the sentence on Tuesday, noting that the court showed leniency because Gambo had spared the court time by admitting to his crime.
Emmanuel advised Gambo to avoid further criminal activities once he had completed his punishment, adding that the sentence was intended to serve as a warning to others.
The prosecution, Inspector Chidi Leo, explained that the theft occurred on December 27 when Yusuf Mai-shago, a resident of Ungwan Sarki in Kaduna, reported the incident to the Malali Police Station.
The stolen wallet contained N50,000, two ATM cards, and several identification cards.
The offence was said to have violated the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
