Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, has highlighted the significant progress made in the country’s bilateral relations with China, underscoring the positive impact on trade, investment, infrastructure development, and cultural exchanges.
Tuggar made the remarks on Thursday while receiving Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Abuja.
He praised China’s economic and technological advancements and reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to a transformative vision aimed at achieving greater prosperity, peace, and equality.
The minister emphasized that Nigeria is keen to build upon its existing ties with China, particularly in areas such as trade facilitation, capacity building, and people-to-people exchanges.

He announced that Nigeria had upgraded its partnership with China to a comprehensive strategic level, with continued commitment to further enhancing the relationship.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in response, described Nigeria as a key player in Africa with a vital role in the continent’s peace and development.
Wang praised the cooperative efforts between both nations, which have produced tangible benefits for their people under the leadership of their respective presidents.
Wang, who began his African tour on January 5, 2025, also conveyed that his visit to Nigeria marked the conclusion of his tour, which included stops in Namibia, the Republic of the Congo, and Chad.
He stressed that the discussions would focus on implementing the key outcomes from the FOCAC Beijing summit and further deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Africa.
