Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has announced the creation of a Ministry of Livestock Development in the state.

This decision, which takes immediate effect, was outlined in a statement by the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Dr. Folashade Ayoade, in Lokoja on Friday.

The establishment of the ministry is aimed at improving livestock management in Kogi and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

Ayoade emphasized that the new ministry would address key livestock issues and promote sustainable growth within Kogi’s agricultural sector.

“The ministry is expected to enhance productivity, create economic opportunities for farmers, and provide support for livestock stakeholders,” she explained.

The move follows a call from the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) Kogi Chapter in July 2024, advocating for the creation of the ministry.

Dr. Tolu Omotugba, Chairman of the NVMA Kogi Chapter, had previously urged Governor Ododo to appoint a qualified Veterinarian as Commissioner to lead the new ministry.

In addition, during the launch of the Private Veterinary Practice (PVP) programme in December, Omotugba reiterated the need for a dedicated ministry to solidify the advancements in livestock production and resilience support, particularly as the PVP project progresses.
