Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents of the FCT that the administration under President Bola Tinubu is committed to fulfilling its promises, stressing that the team working in the territory is not made up of the typical Nigerian politicians.
He urged FCT residents to continue supporting the administration, highlighting the credibility of the president’s team.
Wike made these remarks on Monday in Abaji town, headquarters of the Abaji Area Council, during the commissioning of the 5-kilometre Naharati-River Ukya to Unguwan Hausawa Road, which includes a 2-span river bridge and surrounding streets.
Speaking at the event, Wike reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to delivering on its promises to the people of the FCT.
He recalled that during a stakeholder meeting in late 2023, residents had requested key infrastructure, including road improvements and additional police divisions.
“We listened to your requests, and we are here today to deliver,” he said.
He continued, “At that meeting, you asked for this road project, and today we are commissioning it. We also promised to provide two more police divisions in Abaji, and we are on track to fulfill that promise. We said we would develop Abaji University, and construction is already underway. In the coming months, we will return to hand over the new police divisions.”
Wike emphasized that his administration is committed to improving both the city and satellite towns in the FCT.
“From today until Friday, we will be commissioning projects across all six area councils, demonstrating that we are not only focused on the city but also on the development of the outskirts.”
The minister also took the opportunity to thank the people of the FCT for their support for President Tinubu, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve at this critical time in the country’s history.
“We are not your usual politicians. We make promises, and we keep them,” Wike asserted.
Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, Minister of State in the FCT, also spoke at the event, highlighting the importance of rural road infrastructure in supporting economic growth.
She explained that improved roads, such as the Naharati access road, facilitate better market access for rural producers, allowing them to sell their goods at fair prices and easily access essential services.
Both ministers underscored the ongoing efforts of the Tinubu administration to improve infrastructure and promote development in the FCT.
