Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have issued a stern warning to Mudashiru Obasa, advising him not to exacerbate the political climate following his removal as Speaker.

Obasa, representing Agege Constituency 1, was impeached on January 13 amid allegations of gross misconduct and financial mismanagement.

In the wake of his impeachment, Mojisola Meranda, his former deputy, was swiftly sworn in as the new Speaker by the Assembly members.

Reacting to his ousting, Obasa held a press conference in Lagos on Saturday, describing his impeachment as “unconditional,” a statement that was swiftly condemned by his colleagues.

A statement signed by Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, a member of the Assembly, referred to Obasa’s remarks as “uncalled for and unparliamentary,” emphasizing that the members had every right to remove their principal officers under the relevant statutory orders.

The Assembly members also appealed to Obasa to embrace peace and harmony, urging him to follow the example set by others.

They cautioned that any attempt to further agitate the political landscape would be met with strong resistance from the majority of lawmakers who had united in electing Rt Hon Meranda as the new Speaker.

“Peace is our goal in Lagos, and peace is what we will achieve,” the statement concluded.
