The Ogun State Government has pledged to investigate a viral video allegedly showing the Oloorile of Orile Ifo, Oba Semiu Ogunjobi, subjecting Chief Arinola Abraham to degrading treatment.
In the two-minute footage, Abraham is seen kneeling on a road while a man, believed to be Oba Ogunjobi, hurls insults and accusations of conspiracy against him and his family.
The monarch, reportedly a retired police officer, is also heard boasting about his influence over law enforcement and threatening to imprison the chief.
At one point, a man accompanying the traditional ruler slaps Abraham and orders him to prostrate before the king.
Reacting to the incident, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, condemned the act as “inappropriate and inhumane.”
He assured the public that the government would thoroughly investigate the matter and take necessary action if the allegations were confirmed.
Similarly, the governor’s Special Assistant on New Media, Emmanuel Ojo, denounced the incident in a social media post, emphasizing that traditional disputes should be settled through lawful and dignified means.
“This act is highly condemnable and unjustifiable, regardless of the circumstances,” Ojo stated.
“There are more appropriate ways to resolve disputes, especially among traditional leaders. Public humiliation and assault are unacceptable.”
Reports suggest the incident stems from a kingship rivalry, with Oba Ogunjobi allegedly angered by Abraham’s perceived support for a competing traditional leader.
The Ogun State Government has assured the public that justice will be served and that the integrity of the state’s traditional institutions will be upheld.
