The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has conferred a posthumous award for bravery on Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, ASE II Aminu Sahabi, who was killed in the line of duty.

Olukoyede made this announcement during a condolence visit to Sahabi’s family in the Gawon Nama area of Sokoto on Friday, February 7, 2025.

The late officer lost his life on January 17, 2025, in Awka, Anambra State, while carrying out an official assignment to apprehend suspected internet fraudsters.

Accompanied by top EFCC officials, including the Director of Finance and Accounts, Ahmed Pate, and Acting Director of the Sokoto Zonal Directorate, Nwanneka Nwokike, Olukoyede assured the bereaved family that the commission deeply shares in their pain.

“As a commission, we grieve with you, but we cannot question the will of the Almighty. Aminu was a dedicated and gallant officer who met a tragic fate while serving his country. Indeed, Allah gives and takes,” he said.

The EFCC chairman also vowed that those responsible for Sahabi’s death would be brought to justice.

“I personally assure you that his sacrifice will not be in vain. Those involved in his murder will be held accountable and face the full weight of the law,” he stated.

To honour Sahabi’s service, Olukoyede presented a posthumous bravery award and a condolence letter to his family on behalf of the EFCC and the Federal Government.

He also pledged continued support for the officer’s loved ones.

“The EFCC is a family, and we will not forget you. I will personally check in from time to time, and we have expedited the processing of his benefits, which will be released to his next of kin immediately,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Justice Mohammed Shuaibu expressed gratitude to the EFCC for its support, particularly in ensuring Sahabi’s remains were transported home for burial.

“I was in constant contact with the Chairman after the incident, and we deeply appreciate the EFCC’s delegation at the burial. We are also grateful that a building at the EFCC Academy in Abuja will be named in his honor to immortalize his sacrifice,” he said.

Before departing Sokoto, Olukoyede inspected a guard of honour and held strategic meetings with officers at the EFCC Zonal Directorate.
