The Enugu State Executive Council (SEC) of the Labour Party has passed a vote of confidence on the State Chairman, Dr. Barr. Casmir Uchenna Agbo, dismissing reports of his suspension as baseless and of no effect.

Speaking at a press conference today, the SEC described the alleged suspension, orchestrated by an unidentified group, as a “charade, null and void, and of no consequence.”

The council emphasized that such a pronouncement has no legal backing and is not recognized by the constitution of the Labour Party.

“Nobody—no group—can suspend a State Chairman except through the State Congress or the State Executive Council, and such a decision must be ratified by the National Working Committee (NWC),” the SEC stated.

The council further pointed out that the group behind the suspension lacks the authority to make such decisions, as only three of them are members of the SEC, which consists of 14 members, as clearly outlined in the NWC’s letter establishing the Enugu State LP SEC.

Despite the controversy, Barr. Agbo called for peace and reconciliation, urging party members to remain united.

“Obi is a leader and an asset to the Labour Party, just as the Labour Party is to Obi. The two must work together for greater success. A husband needs a wife to have children, just as a wife needs a husband,” he remarked.

Demonstrating a spirit of forgiveness, Barr. Agbo announced that no member of the group, including the involved Local Government Chairmen, would face suspension.

Instead, he appealed to all party members to prioritize unity and focus on strengthening the party ahead of future political engagements.
